Before working together my client was a little bit camera shy but got more confident as the shoot went on and now loves having personal branding sessions. #Mibmarathonday11

  • Who I am, What I stand for, Who I serve and why I do it

Hi, I’m Lucy, a portrait photographer, who tells powerful stories through imagery. I help women and entrepreneurs feel seen, confident, and in control of how they show up in the world. Through intentional, empowering shoots, I guide my clients to be unapologetically themselves on a shoot.

I stand for visibility, confidence, and authenticity. I work with women, creatives, entrepreneurs, and ambitious professionals who are ready to step into their spotlight. Whether they’re camera-shy and seeking confidence, or ready to refresh outdated visuals and elevate their brand. My shoots are about more than photos; they’re about stepping into your full potential with clarity and authority.

I do this work because I know what it’s like to be underestimated or unseen—and I’m here to help others rewrite that narrative through images. When people are seen with intention, they lead louder, dream bigger, and create communities greater than themselves. Just like you do in MIB.

  • What I’m grateful for on my business journey

On my business journey so far I’m grateful for the people I’ve met in my networking communities like MIB, CWS Creatives and Uclan SME. Those people that hold you accountable when business isn’t going well. Those people that help you when you’re not winning at business. Those friends that become clients and always come back to you for their next idea. Those clients that become friends and hype you up no matter what. Those people that take a chance on you when you’re just starting out and it builds into a professional relationship for years to come. Those that never doubt you even when you doubt yourself. Those people that are there through every business struggle that you don’t see on social media. But most of all I’m grateful for all of you for showing up. #mibmarathonday7

  • My workspace

Here’s a photo of my workspace, it’s basically organised chaos. There are magazines for inspo, books I’m planning on reading next and notes in there. My hardrives are also part of my workspace and where most of my photos are stored. I also have a journal I write in each day and my planner so I know what I’m meant to be doing each day. I do have other workspaces like studios and outdoor locations for a photoshoot but I hire/use those when I need them. #mibmarathonday6

  • One of The biggest lesson I learned

One of the biggest lessons I learned was don’t let your mistakes define your business. Back in 2016 or 17 when I hadn’t done too many shoots I only had one SD card and as I hadn’t yet bought more I used to upload after every shoot.
One evening I forgot to upload after an unpaid event and I had another shoot the next day that was paid so I had to delete some images from the day before to make room because the capacity quickly ran out.
Safe to say a few days after this I bought more SD cards and always have spares on hand so I won’t run out of capacity. #mibmarathonday5

  • My Superpower

My Super Power is Making people feel seen and confident in who they are.
When it comes to finding clients all I care about is that you’re a nice person and, that we have the same or aligning values when it comes to work.

My top 3 are creativity, connection and motivation.

  • Photography Myth

Myth: you need to have all the best gear to be a photographer

Truth: vision, creativity and consistency is more important than the gear you use.

Some of the best photographers use the most basic kit, buy second hand or even make creative work with their phones. Mastering the skill it takes to connect with a subject and telling a story matters more than what gear you use.

Your vision and knowledge is the real investment.

Do you believe that you need to have the best equipment for your job or not? Or does it depend? #mibmarathonday3

  • Why I started

Believe it or not I actually started my business twice. Back in 2016 I was struggling to find work. So I started thinking about if money where no object what would I do and found myself wanting to do photography. I’d always loved it as a child and I decided that I wanted to make a career out of it. But at that time I was deterred thinking I had to drive to make it work. 2 years later I decided to do a masters in photography and then at the end of 2019 I tried again despite still not driving and this time I didn’t give up. But my main thing always comes back to telling other peoples stories and the belief that it is more important to click with people than it is to click the shutter. The shutter is secondary and I love the joy that you can capture once you build that rapport with the subject. #mibmarathonday2 #whyistarted
